Shopping: Shopping at the department stores
  • Tip Rating:
  • Le Bon Marché, Rue de Sèvres 22, 75007 Paris - this is the most cosy department store with an international groceries shop, an antique shop. The furnishing is very intimate and looks more like a boutique than a department store.
    M : Sèvres-Babylone

La Samaritaine, Rue de la Monnaie 19, 75001 Paris - a popular department store (popular in the meaning of ordinary) with a outstanding do-it-yourself department. Also a huge perfume & cosmetics department called 'La grande Parfumerie'. Don't forget to take a look at "Le Toupary" restaurant on the 5th floor for a wonderful panorama.
    M : Pont-Neuf

Les Galeries Lafayette, Boulevard Hausmann 40, 75009 Paris - you will find everything you can dream of in this department store: from a shoe repair service to a travel agency as well as 8 restaurants. This is also the place for fashion shows and concerts.
    M : Havre-Caumartin or Opéra

Le Printemps, Boulevard Hausmann 64, 75009 Paris - a monumental building from the 19th century with a huge glass dome. This is also the fashion temple: 8000 m² of fashion and 15000 m² of accessories.
    M : Chaussée-d'Antin or Opéra

Shopping: Shopping at the fashion boutiques
  • Tip Rating:
  • All the famous designers have their own boutiques. If you're interested in haute couture you should visit the Avenue Montaigne ( M Alma-Marceau): stylish, very stylish and expensive, very expensive. Oh là là!

    Eiffel Tower: La Tour Eiffel
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Eiffel Tower is probably the best known monument in Paris. It was built on the occasion of the World Expo in 1889 and, with its 321 m height, it used to be the tallest building in the world.
Standing at the base of one of the four pillars it is amazing to see how huge the tower is, and how graceful the ironwork of Gustave Eiffel.
You can either walk to the first and second platform or take the elevator. The highest level (300 m) can only be reached by elevator. The views on Paris are spectacular, especially at dusk or at night. At night the tower is beautifully lit and it's open until 11pm in the winter, until midnight in the summer.

    Louvre: Musée du Louvre
  • Tip Rating:
  • When you're standing on the Cour Napoléon the glass pyramid is a real eye-catcher. It's the entrance to the museum.
The museum itself has 3 different wings, Richelieu, Sully and Denon - built over the centuries - and houses the world's greatest art collection amongst which Da Vinci's famous Mona Lisa.

    Montmartre / Sacré Coeur: Montmartre
  • Tip Rating:
  • Montmartre is located on a hill in the city. There's more to Montmartre than Place du Tertre and the Sacr? Coeur. Climb to Butte Montmartre, descent stairways, follow little alleys and deserted squares.
Late in the 19th century artists moved in to the Montmartre area. Toulouse-Lautrec is a name everyone is familiar with!

Montmartre / Sacré Coeur: Basilique du Sacré Coeur
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Sacré Coeur is located high on the hill of Montmartre. Its fabulous domes dominate the city of Paris. The biggest dome is 80m high and the view over the city is breathtaking.
Sacré Coeur is a fairly new church since it was only finished in 1914. Its style is roman-byzantian.

Invalides: Hôtel des Invalides / Dôme des Invalides
  • Tip Rating:
  • Paris Invalides
  • Dôme des Invalides
  • by myriam_c
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • The Hôtel des Invalides has been built during the reign of Louis XIV to take care of wounded soldiers. It's a huge palace-like building that used to be the home of hundreds of wounded and old soldiers.

The Dôme Church - you really can't miss the golden dome - houses the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Hi Myriam - I admire the collage you have done of Rue Mouffetard - it is indeed a fun street - just been there recently and enjoyed it - nice to meet you Mary

Pom' Canelle is a really good place with really good people working there. And the food is very good as are the deserts.

Glad you liked the Marais district. It's one of my favorite parts, too. In fact I even lived there for a while. You're lucky to have the Thalys train. We don't, but we're getting a new TGV/ICE connection sometime in 2007.
