Romulus and Remus ..symbol of Rome A myth made by Livius, an historian from the first century. Vergilius named it in Aeneis, a epic poem.
Livius' story started in the old latin capital called Alba Longa ( close to the present Albano ). King Numitor is cast off the throne. He is obligiing his only daughter Rhea Silvia, to be a Vestal Virgin. Mars is appearing to Rhea and she's getting pregnant from him and gives birth to the twin Romulus and Remus.
Amulius is hiding the babies and he put's them away along the riverside. The gods helped the babies and the flow of the river brought them in a good area, Velabrum.
A wolf is raising the babies untill a shepperd found them. When they became adults......Mars appeared to them and told them their destiny. According Livius they founded Rome in 753 before Christ.
They didn't agree about the name of Rome. Remus wanted Rema and Romulus wanted Roma. They called the gods for help. Remus saw 6 birds in the sky, but Romulus saw 12 birds in the sky and started already with building the wall.
When the angry Remus tried to attack Romulus....Romulus killed his brother. |
