Emigrant isn't much more than a dot on the map,and the only flashing yellow light on highway 89, half way between Livingston and I90 to the north and Yellowstone Park to the south. This long narrow valley where the Yellowstone River flows out of the Park is bordered by two impressive mountain ranges, the Gallatin Range on the west, and the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness on the east. If you like camping there are plenty of National Forest access points to the back country, like Mill Creek, Pine Creek, and Tom Miner Basin. And there is fishing access all along the Yellowstone.
If you're on your way to or from the Park, Emigrant does have a general store with a decent assortment of groceries and other necessities, gas, restaurant, post office, a laundromat, saloon and Chico Hotsprings( 3 miles east of the river) a good place to soak the soar muscles after communing with the elements.
