"Corcyra Nigra" Otok Korcula by 1Sabina

Otok Korcula Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 18 photos

The city of Korcula was the place for my summer vacation this year. The overall impression was: Well, it's nice, but I expected more. The old city is absolutely beautiful if you're into medieval mediterranean architecture. I expected more from the hotels. They look as if they were built in a hurry, without some proper planning. The beaches are also rather poor, mostly rocks. The thing I missed the most were beautiful pine woods hinted in citys name (the ancient greeks called the place: Corcyra Melaina or lat. Nigra = The Black Corcyra because of the thick woods). You actually have to get out of town and walk for half an hour to reach some pine woods, and even then, there's no promenade along the seaside but a busy road. To succers for mediterranean flora and countryside like me I reccomend the island of Losinj or city of Bozava on the island Dugi Otok, not Korcula.
