"This city is famous for its gamblers, prostitutes, exhibitionists, anti-Christs, alcoholics, sodomites, drug addicts, fetishists, onanists, pornographers, frauds, jades, litterbugs and lesbians. If you have a moment, I shall endeavor to discuss the crime problem with you, but don't make the mistake of bothering <I>me</I>."
- John Kennedy Toole, from "<I>A Confederacy of Dunces</I>"
New Orleans is my favorite city in the US, and probably my favorite in the world (so far). It has something for everyone, and it goes far beyond its reputation as a place to get heroically drunk (although it IS great for that!). The French Quarter itself, while somewhat dirty in places and somewhat dangerous in others, is full of buildings with beautiful architecture, restaurants with world-class food, cafes, parks, shops and more.
This photo is of Louis Armstrong, the jazz giant that was born in NOLA on the 4th of August, 1901.
