My Travels My travels used to be mainly business-related... of the extended-stay type, so I got to see the places over the odd work-free weekend.
Having a tremendous and completely irrational fear of flying, I'll go to great lengths to avoid air transportation -- I regularly substitute planes for bus/train! Also, I don't drive, which makes me one of world's biggest shoe purchaser.
Most of the time I stay at corporate-choice hotels, which are very good and very free(!), but when I'm on my own I like to do more with less so end up with pretty good deals short of dorms and shared facilities (I paid my fair dues to shared beds and floors as a student). Same goes for the beer and the food. The only thing I get fussy about is the smile on the waiters/receptionsts/shop-assistants' faces, and the lack of it is sure to make me never return.
I take lots of pictures ("postcards" as Mum calls them) and either develop them back home in Bulgaria at the rate of about 300-500 at a time, or leave them to gather electronic dust on my hard drive.
As a rule of thumb, I try to live like the locals and go to places they go to, use the transport they do and so on... just to soak in the atmosphere and the culture.
One other thing I do not compromise on is the museums and the arts (altho, I'm not up to Modern Art; and most of the 20th Century stuff just makes me scream).

My pages I tried keeping things up-to-date but there is not much time these days.
I've been living outside my native Bulgaria for some time now, so most of the tips are in the Local Customs page of Sofia. I edit them sporadically, as I discover what is different in culture, norms, and everyday life. I also try to explain traditions and traditional rituals. I'll move them eventually to my Bulgaria page... one of those days ;-')

The pages on Belgium - where I now call home - are built around the trips of my friends and family. They include things I like to show them. You know how it is, you tend to know least about the place where you live. I should probably start building a good Local Customs page as well. |
The rest of the countries are mostly business trips, altho the last two years, the trips have been mainly for pleasure (hurray!). I absolutely adore Singapore (and would use any excuse to go there), learnt to accept India, and under the influence of my hubby eventualy surrendered to the beauty of the US. |
