Montreal est tres chaud en aout | Dowtown Montreal from le Parc du Mont Royal |
Montreal, I do have to admit, was a hard city for me to like. It wasn't because of the city itself, but it was due to the fact that I stayed in a part of town which wasn't very bilingual (and my three years of French makes me hardly fluent) and the August weather was oppressive. A language barrier, plus humidity equals not exactly the best of times.
However, there's a lot to see here in Canada's second largest city. The most important city in Quebec, this city was key to Canada's growth from colony to confederation. It was Canada's most important city up until the 1950s and '60s when Toronto became the premier city to beat.
Montreal, also to be known, is not entirely a Francophone city; it continues to have a strong English-speaking community, and a growing number of immigrants.
Montreal is easy to get around with thanks to its subway and because it's situated on an island, fairly confined to a small area, unlike Toronto which seems to go on forever.
So with no further adieu, I bring you Montreal. |
