Chicago is America's Third City (after LA and New York) and is somewhat an anomaly. Sitting on the southern shores of Lake Michigan, it stands as the metropolis of the American Midwest, a region of the U.S. that's known for its sleepy farm towns and small cities, with Chicago standing as a metro island. The city grew to its present size thanks to the many railways that connected the industrial and poplation centers of the East to the urban and rural centers of the distant West, making this a city that represents American centrality--a crossroads town.
Chicago is known the world over for its large meat processing factories in the last century, its Mafia gangsters in the '20s, its various sports teams--some of the most well-known in North America, it's New York-by-a-lake skyline, and its airport, which is one of the busiest in the world.
Chicago is a fun town to explore and a cool place to stay at.

Great Chicago pics. Hope you come back and see the view from the John Hancock which is just as scenic as the Sears Tower--plus has a Starbucks a block away.
