Restaurant Name: Steps of Rome
Located in North Beach, the Steps of Rome has got to be one of my absolute favorites in the entire city. It's the kind of place where you walk by and there'll be an guy standing outside, asking people in a thick accent "Heya, you have to a come in here and to a eat. No, no, no, you must a come in and a eat." It's the kind of place where waiters throw their hands around and exclaim in Italian is nothing but de rigueur. As the website says, this is definitly where San Francisco meets Italy. Sometimes you'll hear Italian spoken here more than English.
The place is always busy with people, and the waiters are truly great and fun to be served by. Plus, the atmosphere is very Italian, and the food is delicious. Perhaps the only downside is that it can be expensive, but for such a great atmosphere and good food, it's worth it.
