Hearts in San Francisco

The Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach
Okay, so the title may be a rip-off of Tony Bennett, but when he crooned so many decades ago that he left his heart in the City by the Bay, it must have hurt, because San Francisco is a city that's hard to leave. The sights of Victorian homes crumpled together on steep hillsides with cable cars passing by on a foggy day are hard to erase. Having grown up relatively close, my friends and I always considered ourselves lucky to be living so close to a city like this.

San Francisco is one of America's most romantic cities, surpassing New York in my opinion with its urban beauty and rural surroundings. Whether crossing the Golden Gate Bridge or driving up the coast on Highway 1, any entrance to the city is bound to impress the visitor.

Founded by Spanish missionaries in 1776 and made a major city by the Gold Rush immigrants in 1849 (hence the term the "49ers") , this city has grown to survive earthquakes and fires to become a scenic West Coast gem that maybe only Vancouver can rival.

So by all means please bring your hearts to San Francisco and come explore this great town.

Pros:"Great scenery, friendly people, multiple things to do, excellent public transportation."
Cons:"Sometimes very un-Californian cold, gray weather, homelessness, and driving and parking can be an absolute nightmare."
In A Nutshell:"San Francisco is one of those places that makes you think California, even if so much of it isn't found anywhere else in the world."

Coit Tower was erected with love for the fire department by Lily Coit. Yes, it's supposed to resemble a fire hose nozzle!
