Make sure the brakes on your car are working before you attempt to go down Lombard Street. It goes down very steeply for one block between Hyde Street and Leavenworth.

Unfortunately , there are lots of homeless people in San Francisco and many pan-handlers. They are not dangerous, just annoying at times. It's better if you answer them and say "no" in a friendly manner than just ignoring them as if they were invisible.
