Basque country

Ainhoa is a small village of about 600 people right across the Spanish border. It's a very picturesque village. The main street is lined with 17C and 18C houses. The facades are freshly whitewashed every year on the St John's day festival. Many of the homes have retained the metal rings used to tie mules, when Ainhoa was a stopover for merchants on their way to Spain.
It's a very scenic village, on the list of the most beautiful villages in France.

What an interesting page about one of my favourite parts of France - but I missed Aïnhoa. Next time.. Thanks for the details.
