First, some miscellaneous lowlights.
Archangelos was a dump. It felt Middle Eastern with its sprawl of cars driven by maniacs, frantic neon signs, roaming cats and electric wires choking the streets. We found no sign of its supposed good bits (church, castle ruin, etc).
Haraki features in a few holiday brochures and I feel sorry for anyone opting for a hotel there. It was tiny, practically a ghost town, and the castle overlooking it amounted to little more than a couple of rocks.
Butterfly Valley. This was probably the most hair-raising drive I took in our little wind-up rental car. After a long series of steep climbs leaving Psinthos you peak out at a ridge with nothing below you except rocks, trees and a view of the power plant. As you descend into the valley itself the road instantly becomes a car park, so watch out for pedestrians who might mistake you for a parked car and walk out in front of you. |
