Getting TO/AROUND: If you have bought yourself one of the nifty tourist travel cards for Stuttgart, you are entitled to travel on the S-Bahn train as far down the line as Plochingen (about 25 minutes). There seemed no reason to venture away from the station once here as the town looked industrial.
Changing trains here, we had time to buy our return tickets to Tuebingen. We weren't able to fathom the ticket machines and went to the ticket office. The gentleman there modestly admitted to knowing 'some' English (he was quite articulate and helpful, actually) and sold us a discount ticket to Tuebingen (apparently the pair of us benefitted from a group discount, something we would NEVER have deduced from the ticket machine).
The return ticket for the pair of us came to 21 euro (15 pounds as of September 2004). Coming back we boarded a direct train to Stuttgart Hbf and didn't need to change in Plochingen. There are about three trains an hour between Tubby and Plocky and the journey takes about 45 minutes.
