Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If May 2002 was typical of any other spring in Malta, you'll want sunscreen, shorts, a hat and sandals. It was warm, not hot, during the day, but the sun is VERY strong. Next to the sea the breeze is cool, almost chilly in the evening, so bring a fleece or jumper. A beach towel to wrap up in is handy if you're going on a boat ride across the open sea. We had a couple of overcast days, very occasional light showers and one big thunderstorm. It was frustrating to have sunny days that were too windy to spend on the beach...so we went hiking instead.
Miscellaneous: Rent a video! Even Madonna wore her floppy hat when she came to Malta to make SWEPT AWAY with Guy Ritchie. It's not as bad as people said, but aside from a glimpse of the Blue Lagoon most of the movie was filmed on Sardinia. A halfway decent movie made in Malta (and Ireland) is COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. You'll spot many landmarks, including Mdina.

I've always wanted to visit Malta. I think it's because on the map it looks so lonesome sitting out there in the middle of the Mediterranean. Gozo looks beautiful. I could do with some warmth and relaxation about now. | Echo_29 Sat Feb 26, 2005 19:14 UTC
