Ho Chi Minh City Hotel Tips by gaolei

I spent 2 nights here in February 2005. The hotel is really beautiful, but very expensive by Vietnam standards. Two things happened whil staying here that would discourage me from staying here again.

First, the city decided to start cutting into the street below my room at 10 PM. Secondly, the power went off several times during the night. When it came back on, all of the lights went on in the room. The first time I was able to turn them off, the second time I couldn't get all of them off. It was now 1:00 AM and I had to get up in 2 hours to get to the airport. I got very little sleep this evening.

The outdoor restaurant is incredibly over-priced as well. Eat somewhere else.

Unique Qualities: A beautiful grand hotel that is priced to match its beauty.

I was in Saigon (I hate the political name HCM) for the night between a flight from Danang and one going to Bangkok. I thought I would try this hotel for its proximity to the airport, good price and good ratings. I was not disappointed!

Unique Qualities: The First Hotel offers good room with free wireless internet in your room, entertainment center across the street, and a good breakfast for a reasonable price. However, I would stay in a district 1 hotel if I were not just waiting for a plane, because there is nothing to see in the local area. If you are in transit, this is your place for the night!
