Getting TO/AROUND: The hundreds of Baht Busses in Pattaya are mostly Toyota and Nisan pickups that have a covered seating area in the bed of the truck. These are the best alternative for getting around Pattaya. Many tourists feel they have to stay somewhere near the walking street or some other area, because of the distance involved in getting there, but the Baht Bus makes that all unnecessary. First they are plentyful, you never have to wait for one, they cover the entire beach, second road area continuously, they are cheap and relatively safe.

Tourists at first are a little afraid to ride the Baht Bus, because they just don't know how it works. Here is how to look like an expert.

1. Walk out to Beach road if you want to go South toward Walking street, Soi numbers increasing. Walk out to Second road to go the other way toward Nakula (North Pattaya) or decreasing Soi numbers.
2. Hold up your hand like you are in NYC hailing a cab.
3. When a Baht bus stops get in the back and sit down.
4. When you want to get out, press the buzzer, or wait until you reach the end of the ride at Walking street.
5. When it stops, get out. Go to the passenger side window and give the driver 10 Baht, no more, no less.

All of those taxi's drivers that deliver tourists to Pattaya all want to go back to their homes in Bangkok, even better if they can get a customer to pay their way back. Well, that's what they do. When they arrive in Pattaya they check in with local agencies that look for customers for them and get a commission for their work.

As you walk down Second road you will see signs advertising taxis to Bangkok or BKK for 800 to 1200 Bhat. These are the street agents for the agencies that line up the taxis. Just walk up and tell them where you want to meet your driver. They will pick you up at your hotel at whatever hour of the day or night you wish. Make your arrangements and get a receipt Make sure you understand what you purchased, who pays tolls and will they take the motorway. At the requested time your taxi will arrive. Make sure you have your receipt!
