BARCELONA,second largest city in Spain,(1990 pop.4.738.354),capital of Barcelona province and chief city of Catalonia,NE Spain,on the Mediterranean Sea.Catalonia has four provinces: Barcelona,Tarragona,Lleida and Gerona. In this region of Spain, you'll find nice and old cities to explore as Barcelona,Gerona,Tarragona, also very good beaches along the coastline. In northern of Catalonia you can find also very good National Parks in the Pyrynees Mountains in the border with France and beautiful landscapes and small villages.
A handsome modern city,Barcelona has broad avenues, bustling traffic, and striking new buildings. The old city, with winding, narrow streets(Roman walls are still visibles),has many Historic structures, including the imposing Cathedral of Santa Eulalia(13th-15th cent.).Also notable is the church of the Sagrada Familia (begun 1882),designed by Antonio Gaudí and not finished yet. There are too many nice places to see in the city, also has some very good Museums.
In Barcelona you'll see other beautiful architecture of Antonio Gaud? as CASA BATLLO ,The Parc Guell and others.
I've been in Barcelona a few times,my last visit it was just last week,I got some relatives here and I had the chance to see them and also see the new Barcelona Forum,a new site it the city about the Forum of the Cultures will be open till October. Also I went two years ago to Barcelona in a VT meeting the first one organizated in Spain. You'll see some pictures of that trip and also many more taken just few days ago. |
