Things To Do: THE SHIP
  • Tip Rating:
  • This Palace is located in the small island of Herrenchiemsee in the lake. The only option to go there is taken a ship as I did.I don't remember the name of the small town where we taked this ship, because I booked that excursion from my travel agency. You can book the same excursion if you are visiting the city of Munich.

The trip in the ship is a very short one, about 12-15 minutes and after that time you'll be in the small island.

Chimsee Lake can be reached by car taking the A-8 Highway (Munich-Salzburg) or also taking the Deustche Bahn (Train) to Prien.

    Things To Do: HERRENCHIEMSE PALACE
  • Tip Rating:
  • When you arrive to the island, there are two options to go to the Palace, the first one is taken a ride in a nice carriage,I saw some tourist arriving the castle this way,I don't know how much it cost, but is a funny option. The second way is taking a small path that go into a nice forest and finished in the Palace. This is the way I used and also the rest of my group. It is just a small walk, about 1.5 Km,and very soon you'll arrive to the castle.

Because I was in a booked excursion,I didn't had to worried about the entrance tickets, our local guide had all of them before entering the castle.I saw the beautiful fountains the first, and then the castle,it is hard to believe that a Palace like that were located in such a small island.Really the inside decoration of the castle was amazing.I liked The Great Gallery of Mirrors the most, but also all rest of rooms that we saw there. Is a place not to be missed!.

    Things To Do: HERRENCHIEMSEE GARDENS
  • Tip Rating:
  • Unfortunatelly is not allowed to take any pictures of the inside of the Palace,so I''ll show you a few of them taken in the beautiful Baroque Gardens instead!.

It is a beautiful Baroque Garden, very similar to the one in Versailles or other European Royal Palaces,it is full of nice fountains and lots of flowers.

    Things To Do: THE FOUNTAINS
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are a few beautiful baroque fountains in the gardens. We arrived to the Palace at about 10 o'clock in the morning and all these nice fountains were working with all water spouts on,our guide told us that only during a little part of mornings and also in afternoon, all fountains are with the water on,the rest of time are off,so we were lucky to see them this way!!!.

Also the guide told me that there is one of fountains here that is a replica of a fountain located in Palacio de la Granja in Segovia,Spain,I didn't noticed about that even though I've visited that Palace in Spain aswell!.

    Things To Do: THE FOREST
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the forest where is located the path to go to the castle. As you can see in the picture we had some rain during our visit there, but this forest looks beautiful anyway!.In the island you can see also a few more small buildings,at entrance you'll find a information point, restaurant, and souvenir shop, and the place where you have to buy your tickets, all these places are located just next to the small harbour before entering the forest.

    Things To Do: CHIEMSEE LAKE
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chiemsee Lake is located in Bavaria,as you can read on my page's intro. This is a very visited place of Germany at any time of year, but they are crowded with tourist during summer season. There are a few campgrounds, hotels and nice restaurants around the lake.

If you come here with time enough, you can stay in one of the nice campgrounds in the nature and also can have time to discover this lake and see other nice places around. The lake has three small islands, another nice one to explore is the one called Frauninsel, here you can see a small nice Romansque Church and also a convent.

A very good option if you are visiting this area,is take a guided ship tour, where you can see all these nice places

The palace might not be as large or ornate as Versailles, but I think it's located in a much more beautiful setting.

This fountain at Herrenchiamsee in travelogue looks outstanding. Haha, each Eeropean country has its own Versailles palace. Welcome to Wilanow palace in Warsaw :-)
