HERRENCHIEMSEE ROYAL CASTLE

by Hosell - last update: Oct 16, 2004

THE CASTLE & FOUNTAIN

Schloss Herrenchiemsee,is a beautiful palace built by king Ludwing II,to surpass the palace of Versailles in Paris.

This palace is located in a small island at CHIEMSEE LAKE,in Bavaria. It is called also The Bavarian Sea,because is huge,it is 80 squared Km. and a maximum deep of 74 m. this is also the largest lake in Bavaria (Bayern).

A good idea to start your visit to the Palace may be take a carriage ride through the nice park and forest in the island till reach the impressive castle.I didn't that ride because we arrived to the isle in a ship and then a nice and small walk of about 10 minutes,we had the visit planned with a local guide .

There are guided tours inside the Palace also.

The palace might not be as large or ornate as Versailles, but I think it's located in a much more beautiful setting.

This fountain at Herrenchiamsee in travelogue looks outstanding. Haha, each Eeropean country has its own Versailles palace. Welcome to Wilanow palace in Warsaw :-)
