LAKE'S VIEW

Chiemsee Lake is the largest lake in Bavaria region and also in rest of Germany. It is located in south of the country and close to the border with Switzerland and France.

This Lake is also called the Bavarian Sea,for its big dimensions,it is 80 squared Km,and a maximum deep of 74 m.

There are thee smalls islands inside the lake that can be visited :

Fraunchiemsee,with a small monastery and a museum.

Krauntisel,in the midle of the lake.

Herremchiemse, the largest one and where you can see the beautiful royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee, built by Ludwing II of Bavaria also know by the "Mad King".

I just been on last one ,I booked a nice excursion to see that island and also the Royal Palace, during my guided tour in some places in Austria,Germany and Switzerland.

Herrenchiemsee Royal Palace

This is one picture taken in this beautiuful palace. The only option to go to this island is taking a ship at Priem, but if you are travelling by the area don't miss a visit to this impressive Royal Palace. It has also some beautiful baroque gardens and fountains.

This is a picture taken on the palace,if you want to know a little bit more about it,take a look to my Schloss Herrenchiemsee page.

You're right, the castle does look like the palace at Versailles. It's amazing that such a big castle was built on an island in the lake--it must have been difficult to get the building supplies there.

I can never get enough of castles, we just don't have stuff like this in the U.S.!
