King Ludwig von Bavaria, a "fairytale king" built this astonishing castle to his own imagination but spent too little time enjoying his work, he died very young. Nowdays castle is the museum for a day trip, make sure you visit it if you find yourself in Fussen, little town on German-Austrian border. Its about 100 km south of Munich, road is very good, just follow the signs for Fussen and you will find it, even see it from the road! Castle itself is on the hill, you can't go up with your car but you can use the local coach (bus or carriage) or, preferably, by walking! Its only 20 minutes walk in the fresh air and lovely view area on the nearby valley!
