In 2000 Hannover was host of the EXPO which was just FANTASTIC!!!!
The EXPO took place from June 1st to October 31st. It was the first world exhibition in Germany; the 26th worldwide. The site had a size of 1.6 million square meters. At the northwestern and southern part of of the EXPO site were the nation pavilions; the theme park, the fair park and the presentation of the partners in the middle. There was a cable railway running between the northwest entrance, the middle station at the Dutch pavilion and the south entrance.</font>
The motto of the EXPO was the following "Humankind - Nature - Technology - a new world arises" All participants committed themselves when considering agenda 21 to keep the principal of the lasting development while designing their exhibition stands. In practice this meant using environmentally-friendly materials, economical use of building material, energy-saving construction methods and the reuse or recycling of the buildings made for the EXPO 2000.
The themepark was the constribution of the EXPO 2000 to the world expo. The main theme "Humankind - Nature - Technology" was introduced through single themes: "Planet of visions" , "Humankind" , "Environment: Landscape, Climate" , "Nutrition" , "Health Futures" , "Knowledge, Information, Communication" , "The future of Work" , "Mobility" , "Energy" , "Basic Needs" and "The 21st Century" . The visitors could explore the ideas and solutions for the problems of the future in one single world in a space of 100,000 square meters.</font>
Each evening, after sunset, there was always the so-called Flambée at the EXPO-lake. Furthermore there were typical folk cultures of various nations at the EXPO Plaza every day and a EXPO-Parade. Various classical, rock and pop concerts, shows and performances took place also.</font>
Host of the EXPO was the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Commissioner General of exposition; responsible for the organization was the EXPO 2000 Hannover GmbH

Der Jemen-Pavilion ist immernoch da und soll zu einem Hotel oder Filmstudio umgebaut werden. Schöne Fotos!
