The state of Mecklenburg Vorpommern is situated in northeast Germany. It borders the Baltic Sea to the north and Poland to the east. Before 1990 M.V. was part of the former German Democrati Republic. That is why you will come across a lot of socialist architecture, especially in towns like e.g. Neubrandenburg. Since the reunification the German government has been spending lots of money on the new states and thus the standard of living there has improved and states like M.V. are becoming more and more popular among tourists. M.V. is one of the least densely populated German states and all in all enjoys a rural character. I guess the most interesting places for tourists are those along the Baltic Sea as well as the islands where you will find some gorgeous beaches. It is just a pity the Baltic Sea is sooo cold *lol* ;-) Some of the northern parts of M.V. also used to be Swedish at some stage by the way. |
