Thailand Transportation

Transportation: Don Muang International Airport
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: Bangkok's Don Muang International Airport (BKK) is located about 16 miles (26 kilometers) north of the city center. It is served by most major international carriers, which makes for easy connections to Thailand from Europe and North America. The airport is old and crowded. However, it is my understanding that a large, modern airport is currently under construction and set to open soon. This should make an even more convenient gateway to Thailand.

Airlines serving Don Muang International Airport: Aeroflot-Russian Airlines, AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines, Air China, Air France, Air-India, Air Kazakhstan, Air Macau, Air New Zealand, Air Ukraine, Alitalia, All Nippon Airways, American Airlines, Asiana Airways, Balkan Bulgarian Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Egyptair, El Al Israel Airlines, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Finnair, Garuda Indonesia, Gulf Air, Indian Airlines, Japan Airlines, Jetstar Asia Airways, Kampuchean Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Kuwait Airways, Lao Aviation, LOT Polish Airlines, LTU, Lufthansa German Airlines, MAI-Myanmar Airways International, Malaysia Airlines, Malev Hungarian Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Olympic Airways, Pakistan International Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Qantas Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Cambodge, Royal Brunei Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Royal Nepal Airlines, SAS-Scandinavian Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SriLankan Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, TAP Air Portugal, Tarom Romanian Air transport, Thai Airways International, Turkish Airlines, Turkmenistan Airlines, United Airlines, Uzbekistan International Airways, VARIG Brazilian Airlines, and Vietnam Airlines.

    Transportation: The Kanchanaburi-Nam Tok Railway
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: Nowadays, it is possible to ride the little train of the Kanchanaburi-Nam Tok Railway constructed by Allied prisoners during the Second World War. The train travels from Kanchanaburi to the terminus at Nam Tok, a 30-mile (50-kilometer) route through the area near the River Kwai. Along the way, the train slows to cross an old, shaky bridge. The wooden pillars and sleepers creak and groan as the train crosses high above the River Kwai.

Excellent comprehensive tips. Enjoyed your Bangkok, Ayuthaya and River Kwai tips. Bring back memories. Durians are an acquired taste like cheese and oyster. Personally, I can resist a good durian.

Dream to visit Thailand one day. Your page makes my dream stronger! I don't like beach-holidays, only to combine it with excursions. There are a lot to see there. Thanks David for sharing! Carefuly done page!
