The Mall of America
  • Tip Rating:

  • I was not sure whether to put this tip under "Tourist Traps" or "Shopping" because in my opinion the Mall of America is rather tacky (although it does have some nice stores) and is full of tourists, many of whom arrive by the busload just to shop and visit the theme attractions. But because it does have more than 520 shops, I decided that this tip should be listed under "Shopping."

The Mall of America is the largest retail and entertainment complex in the United States. It attracts more visitors than the Grand Canyon, Graceland, and Disney World combined, making it the largest tourist attraction in the country.

There are more than 520 specialty shops in addition to such large anchor stores as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, and Sears.

For visitors who tire of shopping, the Mall of America offers theme attractions such as Camp Snoopy (the largest indoor family theme park in the country), Underwater Adventures Aquarium, (featuring sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, moray eels, and more than 3,000 other sea creatures), NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway (simulated high-tech indoor stock car racing), LEGO (featuring more than 30 full-size LEGO models, including dinosaurs, astronauts, and the world's largest animated LEGO clock tower), Jillian's Entertainment (featuring bowling, giant video screens, and 150 simulation games), America Live! (four night clubs in one), and A.C.E.S. Flight Simulators (featuring the systems used in military flight training).

And after all that, there are more than 60 restaurants to feed all the hungry shoppers.

Very interesting and informative page! The Cathedral of Saint Paul looks like his brother in London. Didn't know that -43C is possible in Minnesota. Shops like Mall are occupying Moscow these years. We could hardly think about it in Soviet times. Th David

What a great page on Minnesota Dave. I was esp. impressed with the State Capital building, St. Paul Cathedral & Fort Snelling. Windsor also has a very popular sculpture Garden along the Detroit River.
