Outside Greater Toronto area: Muskoka in the summer or fall...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Muskoka in the summer or fall - Like rugged rocky landscapes mixed with towering pine trees, maples, oaks and winding lakes? Then head up to Muskoka with everyone else in southwestern Ontario and enjoy the beauty of the Canadian wilderness. This scenery was made famous by Canada's foremost artists - 'The Group of Seven' and is particulary beautiful in the fall when the maple trees turn crimson red and meld with yellow leaves from oak tress and the green needles of the evergreens. If you are really ambitious, try camping or 'portaging' (cannoeing through water and over land like our ancestors did) into the heart of one of Canada's largest and most beautiful provincial parks - Algonquin Park. Muskoka begins about 2 hours north of Toronto and the Park is about 3-4 hours drive from Toronto but well worth it. You will need to call ahead to get a camping permit at this park or any in this province, but where else can you live amongst bears, wolves, owls, deer and beaver in their natural environment, even if its only for a weekend. In the winter you can go dogsledding here, but call ahead for information. You can't get much more Canadian than that! Note: there are also several reputable companies like Canadian Wilderness Trips (or is that Canadian Wilderness Tours?) and Outward Bound that run camping and canoeing tours up that way originating in Toronto.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Sports - Blue Jays for Baseball, Raptors for Basketball, Maple Leafs for Hockey. You can usually get fairly good last minute seats for all but hockey games as those sell out long in advance. All sports venues are right downtown in a very safe neighbourhood very close to the CN Tower (which is the world's tallest free standing structure). You can't miss the CN Tower as Toronto's biggest landmark to find your way around.
