When I was in Sydney I saw an impressive performance of Phantom of the Opera at the Theatre Royal in downtown Sydney. There was nothing that I could buy tickets to at the world famous Opera House, but I was able to enjoy eating fish and chips outside of it!! You can also pay money for a tour through the Opera House, but I prefer to wait until I can go back and see some kind of performance there. In other words, plan your visit to the Opera House early, that way you will get to see what you want.

An interesting array of exhibits from the ordinary to the bizzarre! The first thing I saw when I entered the museum was a huge totem pole from British Columbia!! There was a large opal exhibit that was quite good - opalized fossils were really cool. A neat ecological display as well - showed different environmental choices with hands-on exhibits (although mostly geared to children).

Hyde Park, ANZAC War Memorial, Pool of Reflection A park and monuments commemorating the servicemen and women involved in the various wars that Australia has participated in. Would be a great place to bring a packed lunch and relax (and reflect).

The most fantastic view of Sydney Harbour and downtown (350m above Sydney). I went on a clear day and could see for miles. I am certain that a night visit while some fireworks are on would be spectacular (when I was visiting Sydney there were fireworks every night in the harbour - seriously!!). In the picture to your left you can see the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, McQuarrie Point, and Fort Denison. The entrance fee was $6.00 Australian.

Visit not for the shopping, but for the Maritime Museum and the chance to step aboard a Destroyer, the Sydney Aquarium, Powerhouse Museum, and the Tumbalong Park. Lots of fun and can take your whole day wondering around the harbour.

Wonderful zoo filled with native animals as well as a variety of exotics. I particuarly liked the Meer Cats. The foliage around the zoo was also very nice and lush. Some of the exhibits provided neat shots of the Harbour Bridge and Opera house in the background.

Australians, generally speaking, enjoy gambling, and what better way to spend an afternoon in the sun than at the racetrack?? If you are lucky enough, you may be there during one of the major racing events and you can make an interesting day of it. I left before noon to see the Golden Slpper Stakes at Rosehill Racecourse in Paramatta. Took the Rivercat there (cool experience itself) and then spent the afternoon watching the beauty of the horses and the crowd. Quite a dressy day so wear your finest. I believe attendance that day was around the 35,000 mark so get ready for some crowds.

Queen Victoria Building Shopping Awesome place to shop, especially if you are made of money. If you are like me, you probably can't afford too much of what is offered at the Queen Vic, but the building is so beautiful, it is a must see. Also fun to make the Versace shop keepers nervous!

Four floors of art - mainly paintings and some sculpture. Interesting collections of works done by primarily Australian artists. I especially enjoyed the Aborigine art, in particular the area containing women's art and their role in Aborigine society. Very spacious gallery and good information available on the various exhibits.
