Mauritania Mauritania is a juction between the Maghreb and and the Black Africa. More than 60% of the country is Sahara and the other part is Sahel. This lets you know that Mauritania is a very desertic country, with some green valleys in the South, on the river Senegal. Thanks to new dicovered Copper and Gold mines, and more recently petroleum, the country begin to attract Western investments and you can see other forigners than tourists. As soon as you land in Nouakchott, you directly feel in the desert. If you are lucky, there is no wind and the dusty sand is not turning around you. You are directly in the desert. You can take a camel and go out of the city, you are in the Sahara. |

hindu1936 Fri Apr 7, 2006 10:28 UTC Thanks! Even though I don't drink, reading about the Mauratanians who do, and hide it from the religious police is both funny and reassuring that humna nature is alive as always. |
