Pointe Indienne

This is the weekend place for people of Pointe Noire.
Almost all companies have a land there with some bungalows for the entertainment of the staff. The place is very quiet, far from the noisy and crowdy Pointe Noire, although less than 20 km from it.
When you reach Pointe Indienne, you see on your left the gas factory. Lots of petrol companies are rejecting and burning the gas in the air instead of using it. In fact, the gas is too poor for a profitable use at the moment (with the high barrel price). So, the Government does not say anything to companies that burn the gas and pollute the air.
Of course, being in Pointe Indienne, you won't smell anything, but the dust falls on you...
That is also one of the reasons why you are always sick in Pointe Noire

Directions: Go to the North, Mandigo-kayes, at the junction, turn left and 500m after, you have the small path to Pointe Indienne.
Take a GPS with a position, esle you might be lost if you don't have a local friend with you

The train station

There are only two ways to go from Pointe Noire to Brazzaville: plane or train. Road is out of the question, not only it is in a very bad shape but also roadjackers will stop you.
Almost everybody must take the train (that is very often shot). The few days when there is a train, you see thousands of people queuing in the street in front of the station, with the hope to have a place to go to Brazzaville. Place is quite cheap, but you must queue 12 hours and have also a 14h journey in very difficult conditions.

The station is a copy of the train station of Deauville, in N ormandy, France.

Quad in the plantation

There is a huge 70,000 ha eucalyptus plantation all around Pointe Noire. One of the very few things to do is ATV in the plantation.
We used to ride a 700 Raptor on the beach and in the plantation during weekends.

Chimpanze reserve

There is a small reserve for monkeys and apes on the road to the North (Mandingo-Kayes).
As usual, there is no fund, but some European students are maintaining the place as best as they can.
It is not far from Pointe Noire, 30 minutes driving and 30 minutes visiting.

They have the oldest chimpanzee of the world, said to be born in 1903 and rescue from the zoo in brazzaville during the war in 1998.
Since then, he is olding in the reserve.
