A world miracle

The Afsluitdijk or Enclosure dike is still an unbeaten example of hydraulic engineering, dating from 1932. By this dike, the Wadden Sea and the South Sea were devided, thus turning the latter into the freshwater IJsselmeer Lake. The dike stretches from Noord-Holland to Friesland over some 35 km. From here, you have wonderful views over the lake and the sea.

During the 2nd World War, Kornwerderzand held the Germans back for many days.
