Venice Off The Beaten Path

Murano: island of glass makers
  • Tip Rating:
  • This path is pretty beaten actually. Of the 3 islands outside venice.. this is probably the most visited island. Tours come here by throngs.. and everybody else comes here to find a good buy to bring back home. I wanted to get something back too.. But the good quality pieces were so pricey.. so i had to settle with a sub standard piece.. but i still like my buys.. cherries.. a plate and a gondola figurine.

I bought some other gifts too.. like a wine bottle stopper which was nice.. and small pendants for my gfs.

    Burano: Colourful houses
  • Tip Rating:
  • Venice Burano
  • rows and rows of Colourful houses

  • This place is like a rainbow island to me. All houses are painted in vibrant colours and no 2 consecutive houses are painted in the same colour.

This is like the ideal island for some Nippon or Dulux paint advertisement.

Besides the colourful houses, there are many lace shops because this is where the famour venetian silk comes from. I couldn't locate the lace factories though i think most families make the lace themselves. there is a lace museum.. but i'm not THAT into lace.. so i'll pass with the history of lace....

With so many lace shops in my face.. how can i not buy anything.. i mean.. i don't even like lace.. and i still landed up buying a toilet roll holder?!?! Geez.. gone-case shopaholic!
