Favorite Thing: Hua Hin Town has a relaxing charm, the fishing piers, the quiet streets, but as Hua hin becomes more busy don't miss the surrounding areas. Cha Am is just 20 minutes away, try a trip at the weekend when it's busy with visitors from Bangkok and you enjoy the fun atmosphere, or weekdays when it is quiet. Take the Green pick-up bus from the Central Market ( just 7 baht ) and journey 10-15 minutes south of town to Khao Takiab. This is a lovely area where you will find Temples, the famous Golden Buddha, plus the great clear waters of Hua Don beach at Khao Takiab Bay. Relax on the beach loungers and beach chairs, have a meal on the beach, elephant ride, the Banana boats, maybe Jetski(be careful ! ) or just wander around the fishing village. You can also rent bicycles and explore the famous temple areas. Nice cafes and restaurants. If you go to Hua hin and don't spend time at Khao Takiab and the beach at Takiab Bay you are missing one of the best beach treats Hua hin has to offer. The beach is long and the water is crystal clear, it actually faces more south. Also get into the hills behind Hua Hin, also Elephant rides and a great view. Don't forget Pak Nam pran and the Sam Roi Yot National Park too.
Fondest Memory: So glad that I discovered Khao Takiab Bay, Palm trees and beachchairs, cool clear water, certainly the best beach !

General Tips: Hua Hin Weather and accommodation in January

Favorite Thing: Wearher should be fine in Hua Hin in January. You certainly must book accommodation in advance as it is peak season. if you arrive without booked accommodation you 'may' find some place to stay but you would have to take whatever accommodation is available - you would not have been able to choose in advance.

General Tips: Cha Am, Hua Hin and Pranburi

Favorite Thing: Cha Am and Hua Hin flow into eachother. depending where you stay in Cha Am you would be no more than 10-20 minutes maximum into the center of Hua Hin. pranburi is different as that is a good 35-45 minutes south, again depending where you stay. There is no point staying at different places. I would stay in Hua Hin from where you can take tours to the nearby national parks, visit the Elephant village, take the day trip to Bang Saphan and Koh Talu for snorkeling. In both Cha Am and Hua hin there are excellent top hotels and resorts, you have not mentioned though your budget. Hyatt Regency and Sofitel are excellent, also you have Marriott, Wora Bura and Hilton ( though I am no fan of the Hilton as it is a tall high rise ). The Anantara and Alisa Suites are north of Hua hin town on the way to Cha Am, then you have the Sheraton, Dusit Thani, Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Marriott. There are some excellent boutique hotels in Hua Hin, the Baan Bayan is classic in style. I have never heard of any hovercraft service. from Bangkok you can travel by taxi or limousine service, those are the fastest, by train is about 4 hours. If you are on a budget frequent express buses.
