WELCOME TO THE HEART OF EUROPE THAT HAPPENS TO BE MY BEAUTIFUL HOME COUNTRY!!!
Have you ever tried asking yourself a seemingly simple question:"Why and what for do I love my country?" I am sure you will find enormous difficulty trying to answer this simple question. Indeed, there is hardly anyone who will sense the matter in its entirety. There is hardly anyone who will be able to describe the blue of the sky or the peculiar flavour of the home wind, or the specific softness of the native soil, or the unusual beauty of the people around us. What we shall probably be able to say is that it all belongs to us and it is where we belong. Now I will try to tell you how I feel about my country and help you to look at the things the way I see them and hope that you'll know my country a little better than just a tourist who only gets a glimpse of the land around him.
Imagine you're in Belarus, let's start our journey... I'll be your guide for today. If you go north, you will see a land of Braslav lakes with crystal-clear blue waters surrounded by pine groves. If you go west, you will find yourself in the Brest province - the land of immense fields and meadows. In the south you will be engulfed by infinite forests and marshes. We call this land Polessye. Should you want to find out in what our land is unique, take a walk along the Dvina bank near St. Sophia of Polatsk cathedral or along the Niemen near the Kalozha church. Should you like to feel its freshness, jump into the soft waves of lake Naroch on a bright summer morning. And should you want to smell the odour of our earth, roam the Belavezhskaya Puscha forests.
In the Middle Ages Belarus was the place where all comercial ways crossed. Unfortunately, the numeruos wars have swept away almost all the evidence of the tragic past, although you still have a chance to wander the narrow streets of the old town of Grodno, climb up the creaky staircase to the top of the Belaya Vezha tower, feel the loftiness of the Sapega Palace in Ruzhany. Passing through hundreds of settlements and villages you will spot, in almost every of them, a church or a chapel. If you are lucky enough you will see such antiques as the Ishkald catholic church built in 1472 or the Kalvinist ecumenical cathedral in Smargon which dates back to to the XVI century, been razed to the ground during World War II.
That's how I see my home country, young and old, beautiful and full of pride, a country that is situated in the very HEART OF EUROPE where all roads meet!!!! So, I guess, I'll see when you get there!!! All for now, check back later
