Oh Calcutta - a modern Indian that has won best Indian restaurant for the last 8 yrs running. Service is a little slow but the food is amazing.. there are about 5 main course and we have tried 3 of them. Ask to sit upstairs when booking, there is more room up there. This place is a little expensive but it really is worth it.
Favorite Dish: Stir fried kangaroo with sesame seeds, chilli, garlic and lemon

Chinta Ria - The Temple of Love.... This is one of my favourite places for a really nice but informal meal. Malaysian hawker sytle food... casual atmosphere, great staff, great smells from the food and the incense.... jazz/blues playing in the background... all topped off by reasonable prices and great decor!
Favorite Dish: Char Keow Taow (spicy noodles), the eggplant... and the filo wrapped prawns I think they are called 'Ella's Wraps'

Sydney has lots of great restaurants... one of the major benefits of our multicultralism... Try Campsie - Korean Leichhardt - Italian Brighton le Sands - Greek Bankstown/Greenacre - Lebanese Cabramatta - Vietnamese Newtown for a great mix of everything from African to Vietnamese at budget prices.

Restaurant Name: Sailors Thai Canteen
Thai restaurants are everywhere in Sydney. Newtown for example has at least a dozen in one street but this one is extra special. Great for travellers as no reservation is required but turnover is pretty quick so you wont have to wait too long. Open 12pm-9pm daily. There are a few outdoor tables but most seating is indoor at a long communal table. The owner, David Thompson, is the most famous thai chef in Australia and the food is unbelievable!
Favorite Dish: Pad Thai is my favourite also love the green Paw Paw salad

Everything I have had here is good but I particularly like the seafood dishes. Dont miss the salt and pepper squid, Otak Otak - fish in chilli and banana leaves and the Popiah, (little rolls of pastry filled with prawns and lots of other yummy stuff) servings are huge too!
