Funkytown! aka San Francisco!

by PartyRambo - last update: Oct 28, 2003

The aliens have landed! Oh, they're just mimes...

You've heard of Men In Black?
How about Men In Silver?
These mimes put on quite a good show, which is good for them, as most people will try to kill mimes as fast as look at them these days...

The Golden Gate What?

Of course, there's a necessary picture of the Bridge - perhaps the world's most well-known span - opened in 1937, at 4,200 feet long, 260 feet above the cold water of the Bay.
An average of 7 people a month commit suicide by jumping from here.
You can walk, bike, or drive this almost-mile-long suspension bridge, which for over 20 years was the world's longest.
There's a $3 toll for cars, but it's worth it - if a passenger has a camera, get it ready for some glorious shots.

The Rock!

Without question the most unusual tourist location of international proportions, and possibly San Francisco's only 5-star rated attraction by all age groups, almost EVERYONE has heard of Alcatraz.
This island in San Francisco Bay requires a 12-minute ferry trip across, a $10+ admission fee (plus a few dollars if you choose the audiotape tour - I recommend it!).
Ferries leave every half-hour or so from 9:30-on.
See my travelogue for more details, pictures, and history.

Pros:"Check out SFTravel.com for more info"
Cons:"Much colder than I expected - dress warmly, even late-summer!"
In A Nutshell:"I left my heart... on the cable car seat..."
