Trains

The fastest overland transport to get to Wuxi from cities in the surrounding area would be D train.
Wuxi is about 1 hour from Shanghai, about 20 mins from Suzhou and 1.5 hours from Nanjing.
From Hangzhou, D train is also the fastest option, but there're only about 2 departures daily, so you might be better off taking a bus; other slower trains will take 4-6 hours for the journey.
Between Wuxi and Beijing, the best options are the overnight D trains (2 departures daily, 9 hours journey time) but these can be expensive if you're on a backpacker's budget. Slower and cheaper are the overnight T trains (also 2 departures daily) which take about 12 hours.
