New Brunswick province covers an area of almost 28,000 square miles, including 512 square miles of water surface. Fredericton is the capital. One of the Maritime Provinces, New Brunswick is bounded on the north by Chaleur Bay and Quebec Province, on the east by the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Northumberland Strait, and Nova Scotia, on the south by the Bay of Fundy, and on the west by the State of Maine. Its irregular coastline provides excellent facilities for fishing and shipping enterprises. The largest river, the Saint John, crosses the province from northwest to southeast, and the Miramichi River flows northeasterly and drains the central lowlands of the province.
