Oregon Waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge.

by Geoff_Wright - last update: Jan 17, 2004

Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls is the tallest and most famous of a number of majestic waterfalls to be found along the Interstate 84 in Oregon. Located about midway between Hood River and Portland, the two-tier falls plummets 542 feet down a rockface carpeted with mosses and other vegitation, collects in a pool, then , passing under a fine pedestrian bridge, falls another 70 feet to the ground.

The Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge is a spectacular river canyon cutting the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range.

The Gorge is 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep in places, with the north canyon walls in Washington State and the south canyon walls in Oregon State.

Besides its status as a gorgeous natural wonder, The Columbia River Gorge is also a critical transportation corridor, home to 70,000 people.

Excellent tips and info to help me plan a trip I hope to take in 2006! Did you do a daytrip from Portland? How far can you go up the gorge from Portland in one day?
