The Eden Project It is already being called the 8th wonder of the world. 500,000 people visited in the year 2000 - just to see it being built! . It is home to the world's largest greenhouses. The Eden Project opened on March 17th 2001, Visitor numbers have already topped 2 million! Nestling within a giant 50 metre deep crater overlooking St Austell Bay, in Cornwall, are two gigantic geodesic conservatories - one is a majestic rainforest cathedral - the Humid Tropics Biome; the other, is the Warm Temperate Biome, host to the plants, fruits and flowers of the Mediterranean, South Africa and California. They form a majestic backdrop to the outdoor landscape. If you are visiting Plymouth, then take a journey further down into Cornwall and visit this magnificent project at St Austell. For full details of opening times, prices and evets see the website. www.edenproject.com

Things To Do: The Royal Citadel

The Royal Citadel was built on the site of the old 14th century castle of which nothing now remains but the fragment of a bastion at the foot of Lambhay Street. The Citadel is still in use as a barracks, and was built by Charles the Second as 'a menace to the rebellious townsmen' who for more than three years held the city for the Parliament in the English Civil War See my travelogue for another older view of this famous site

I've heard a lot about this famous place and you've been there! Better to see once than to hear a thousand times! Seeing is believing! Well done! | nhcram Thu Sep 30, 2004 22:16 UTC Spent a lovely day here once but forgot where the car was and by the time we found it we got a PARKING TICKET!!! Must visit the Eden Project next year. Great tips | Joan40 Fri Jun 11, 2004 23:42 UTC Hi - been to the Eden Project (2003) but it was March so the dome with the grapes was pretty sparse, but the place itself was great. Just looked at your Plymouth pics - good place but I shan't be returning (you'll know why if you read my home page) hehehe |
