  • I asked my local publican when she thought Australian wine first came to England. She thought about 10 years or so ago, and she's from New Zealand! Well, this advert, as I say' is from 1899. This was an import from Australia but see above for details of British exports from Plymouth to Australia! An update on the wine is that everyone I have spoken to, in all walks of life, says Australian wine came to England about 10 years ago!

Favorite Dish: If you can find a restaurant that serves wine and whiskey at these prices you'll be a very happy visitor!! (One shilling (1/-) is equal to 5 pence today!). I just had to put this advertisement here, taken from 1899 guidebook of Plymouth.

  • Favorite Dish: And, again, everyone who visits Devon will have heard of the Cyder, even if it it over 100 years old!

Hello, Geoff! I've heard a lot about this famous place and you've been there! Better to see once than to hear a thousand times! Seeing is believing! Well done!

Hi - been to the Eden Project (2003) but it was March so the dome with the grapes was pretty sparse, but the place itself was great. Just looked at your Plymouth pics - good place but I shan't be returning (you'll know why if you read my home page) hehehe
