"Old Muttrah" Matrah by Geoff_Wright

When I was stationed in the old fort at Bait Al-Falaj, I asked the Senior Clerk if I could have an old air photo that hung on the wall behind his desk. I still have this photo, which has suffered more in my hands than it ever did on that old wall in Bait. It is creased, torn and has evidence of mildew on it. And all done since it came into my possession. Nevertheless, I have scanned the picture and display it here, as a record of what Old Oman (Muttrah) once looked like (Late 1960's- early 1970's).

This view is of the Cornishe, the centre part of the town, with the old airfield at the rear.

This is the town at the end nearest to Muscat, the capital city. The old Muscat road is to the left of the picture, and runs past one of the famous old Portuguese forts. This little road is long gone, replaced at the time I was leaving, with a dual-carriageway. they even tarmac'd over my old fishing spot, just visible at the bottom left of the photo!

Now a deep water port area

The final part of the same photo is of the area now buit up as the port. Running away into the distance is the old dirt road to Ruwi, now a thriving town (or city) in its own right. Beyond Ruwi is the rest of Oman! Nothing existed in Ruwi then! this road is now a major highway! I hope to be able to paste updated views here on my return from Oman (obviously after I get there!)

loved Oman for this was that you hold the package from the old photos What a beautiful those pictures, even if these are old suggests that the period of time where you last Abdullah Mehsud

very rare picture....I was in mattrah last night.. big difference I wish to go for walk with you in Muttrah's beach
