YHA Oxford Street! The first time I stayed here, in February 1996, I had the best time! I met so many great people, and still correspond with one person. Cat, the girl working there at the time, pretty much demanded that Oxford Street be the coolest hostel in London, and she got what she wanted. (BTW, if anyone knows where she is please let me know! I tried to write to her when I heard she went back to Africa but my letter got returned, seems the postal service couldn't find the address.) The second time I was there, in February 1997, Cat wasn't there anymore but it was still a very cool place. Even travelling alone, it is a great place to find a group of people to have a night on the town with.

Unique Qualities: This hostel is small compared to some that I have been to, the lounge is where everyone seems to congregate. There is a self-serve kitchen off the lounge, but best of all is its location in central London. It is easily accessed by the Tube, and if you are a out clubbing late at night then the night busses go thru Picadilly Circus, which is a short and fairly safe walk.

Directions: 14 Noel Street, W1
Go down Oxford Street to Poland Street (about halfway between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road tube stops), then take a left onto Noel Street.
