Onomichi is a hidden gem located in Hiroshima Prefecture. It is a spot many visitors to Japan miss, and because of this your visit to Onomichi will be one where you can view Japanese temples & savor the aesthetics of Japanese culture without seeing many or any "foreign" tourists along the way.
The Onomichi Temple tour is a tour of 25 Buddhist temples & shrines along a stone pathway. Each temple has its own uniqueness. At the first temple, Jokoji Temple, you can make a clay buddha. At Saikokuji temple you can see a huge display of straw sandals.
If you love to visit Japanese temples, this is a must-go destination for travelers to Japan.

I was born in Onomichi, and went Senkoji for Hanami and other events when I was a child. The town, especially near the train station, has been developed heavily in the last 10 years or so, but still has a lots of old charm.

Ah the memories you have brought back. Onomichi and Senkoji are wonderful. Temples and old streets, hanami and a sword making family store that now makes knives. Senkoji provides a lovely mountain top view of the harbor.

Onomichi sounds like a fascinating place to see temples. Is it comparable to Kyoto??
