I visited Vietnam in 2001 with my group of Norwegian students. We didn't have much time, but I think got the most out of it: we spent a few days in Saigon, then some of us took a (mostly) night bus and went up to Hanoi. stopping on the way in Nha Trang, Hoi An and Hue. From Saigon, we visited the Mekong delta, the Cu Chi Tunnels, and the Great Temple of the Cao Dai religion (a slightly disturbing place for must of us, very colourful and very touristy nowadays). From Hanoi, we went to see Ha Long bay, but didn't actually see much as the rocks were hidden behind a thick fog. We had a mysterious experience though.
When we decided to go to Vietnam, I didn't really go what to expect (particularly compared to Thailand and Cambodia). And Vietnam became my absolute favourite: the nature is so amazing, the Mekong delta or just the ordinary countryside, the cultural heritage is so rich and it's so easy to travel around. It's a country to fall in love with.
- Pros:Great combination of culture and nature
- Cons:None at all
- In a nutshell:One of the most exciting countries I've seen - would go back any time!
