Orlando, Florida... main attraction? My fabulous cousins and family!!
5 April 2005 was the day we finally met face to face. Meeting another Cavilla has been a life long wish! There are only five of us here in Australia and this is the first time I have met anyone else with my family name. May sound weird to those people who have a more well known family name but for me, this is a first!
These boys know how to party... live and work in absolute style. They booked a limo for three hours... had a tiara, a white feather boa and a bottle or two of the finest french champagne waiting for me upon my arrival!! Oh let me tell you... the Diva has landed!! :o)
They picked me up from the airport, took me to dinner after cruising past the gorgeous parks and fountains in Central Orlando. After all that we arrived in style at their beautiful 1927 cira home.
I love the houses here. They're wooden, mostly, and the others are 'stucco'. Back home - in Perth, Australia - the houses are double brick and tile so as to prevent termites and insulate against the incredible heat of our summers. I'm discovering the beauty and diversity obtained through wooden homes and offices here in Orlando, Florida.
There is colour and charm everywhere. People hang basket plants, wind chimes and flags from their front porches... garden fountains and bird feeders grace the lush garden flower beds with lamp lit pathways that lead to wide porches and swinging chairs alongside easy rocking chairs.
My cousin Derek, Terry and I celebrated the end of our busy, but highly successful, week on the porch with cheese, crackers and a bottle of Moet & Chandon as the Friday sun went down. Simply fabulous darlings!
Orlando is proud of its Victorian heritage and the evidence of this beautiful architecture is everywhere. Simply driving around the streets of the Lake Eola District takes your breath away with the truly elegant style and grace of a by-gone era.
The City of Orlando is keen to keep its inherited building style and insists that all new homes and additions to exsisting dwellings stay within the strict design specifications and guidelines of the cities early settlers.
- Pros:Too fabulous for words darrrrling!
- Cons:Oh never mind about them... lets have another champagne!
- In a nutshell:More than Disneyland and tiaras! Hardly!! :o)
