Ganzhou

by l_joo - last update: Nov 3, 2006

Ganzhou means the city (zhou) of Gan, the word Gan is pronounced Kaan, not 'gun' firearms, remember G is always K in China, it is important to me but others probably don't bother. Main picture is a beautiful spot in Ganzhou, is called Bajingtai which is a cool looking ancient pagoda kind of huge structure built along the wall, you can see it when you saw this wall in Ganzhou. The architecture you see here is 99.9% not traditional Chinese but the wall at right is, it is a smaller version of the Great Wall, typical wall in China. They built the wall surrounded the entire city which is quite big and attractive and surprisingly very clean. The other side of wall is huge river about 500 ft width or more and you can see the estuary in obvious, also very clean, so the name Gan actually derived from these two rivers, Gong + Zhang = Gan, that's how they Chinese named it. The size of Ganzhou is about a KL, but is probably a tiny village in China.
