Off The Beaten Path: Street Saloon at Chinatown
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chinatown has a street saloon. The old barber is the one and only so far I saw in the area.

Look carefully inside the photo, behind me is an old skillful barber. You can have a hair cut here. I'm not sure how much he charge but definitely not the charge of modern saloon by young hair-stylists.

Around this area you can still find many old buildings that has long history and cultures, don't miss it. Snap as many photos as you can.

Off The Beaten Path: Village at Jalan Gurney
  • Tip Rating:
  • Jalan Gurney is a big contrast in rich and poverty where if you go there by taxi, you can see on one side shanties and at the other side big bungalow big cars.

Completely OTBP and unheard-of to tourism, I uploaded so that our VT OTBP can further develop to help tourists worldwide looking at the unseen.

Further down the road is our beautiful town of Datuk Keramat, please pay a visit as well.

  • This is a very old Malaysian-Chinese archiecture called Chen-Si-Soo-Yen. It is some kind of clanism during early days migration from China.

This building is located behind the old Stadium of KL near Petaling Street Chinatown. Worth a look, a historical building, make sure you visit this one.

Hello tourists, this is actually a disguise, if you visit this place at day time. Take a walk to the back alley of this construction and you will understand what I mean by disguise. But I will not tell you what that is because that's illegal in Malaysia Law.

Off The Beaten Path: Village at Loke Yew
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kuala Lumpur - Loke Yew village

  • This one is quite easy to access by walking from Pudu Jail. Start from the old Pudu Jail where it has its own LRT station. Walk towards the opposite direction of Imbi road until the big junction (one of the biggest in the city). Turn left and keep walking until you see the other side of the road a cemetary. Walk across the Loke Yew main road, be careful as the road has so many cars driving at high speed. Walk to the cemetary and follow the alley beside it, keep walking ahead as you can notice there is a Chinese temple. Try to look for a way into the village because they have fences around it but many ways through. This location is one of the best OTBP in the city.

  • If you are in Puduraya Bus Station, take a walk towards the direction of Bukit Bintang and almost halfway before the junction, you can see a road less obvious in your right side which is where this church located.

This place is also a religious school, the building is painted in light pink with white as base. Worth a look, try it.

    Off The Beaten Path: Segambut
  • Tip Rating:
  • Who said Segambut is not an OTBP. Segambut is belong to the tip here since no tourists or no travel agents ever did mention about the location. Off the beaten path tip is for VTer to show unheard-of things in the tourism world, therefore Segambut has to be one

Segambut town has a building in rouge so prominently on the main road. Please try this location, lots of good photogenic materials to be discovered.

  • At the Ampang old town centre has one eminent old Chinese-Buddhism temple which has these hanging joss-sticks in spiral shapes. I found it very attractive as photogenic subject especially to portray this less attention-getting town of Ampang.

Ampang old town is not only about temple but many other things worth attention too. It has a LRT station, therefore tourists can hop on from the city centre at anytime but please, not midnight.

Off The Beaten Path: Residential area of Jinjang
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kuala Lumpur - Jinjang residential area
  • Jinjang residential area
  • by l_joo

  • Take a visit to Jinjang residential area located at Kepong Road. Tell you taxi driver that you want to visit Jinjang's Malaysian-Chinese area. Jinjang is famous location, taxi drivers should be able to handle this easy task.

Jinjang also is a good spot for snapping unseen photos especially at the old quarter where they have morning wet market on the street and many stores and shops where elder dwellers perfoming The siesta of Jinjang.

The photo shows one small alley of the residential area, but don't get it wrong as most were already modernized and rich as well with big cars too.

  • This architecture is still new since year 2000. The location is Sentul but how to get there is a complicated question.

LRT has a station there which is Sentul Station but visitors must walk across an area which is very OTBP (off the beaten path). Only special tourists willing to visit such places.

The place is inhabited by mostly extreme poverty of the city, so make sure you pay a visit there.

Off The Beaten Path: Village at Semarak
  • Tip Rating:
  • Situated in between Setapak area and Datuk Keramat area lies another village or town called Semarak. It has new area and old area which is all on one single road. The photo uploaded is the section close to Setapak area which is an old village and the road access to it is just a little wider than our staircase where I must stop my car beside the road to wait for cars from the other direction to drive pass before I can start going again. Semarak certainly is not all about what the photo shows but has a big army base and many well developed bustling town areas directly connected to the city centre.
