White Sands in New Mexico!

by phi78 - last update: Mar 3, 2001

<p><font color="#004080" face="Comic Sans MS"><strong>Saturday the 4th of September: a van stuffed with eight international students, were excited to make another weekend-trip during their exchange. This time they were heading to an Indian fair in Window rock. After a bumpy road, a lot of candy and three hours we were at the destination. Since it was raining cats and dogs and it was muddy everywhere we decided to leave. This was not a big success. But what about our camping weekend?

We decided to go to the good weather. Let’s go to a beautiful natural park called White Sands in New Mexico. And than we also could visit Roswell which is close. If we had to believe "Papa Smurf" (alias Warner) this UFO place was supposed to be the History and Culture of America?!? When we arrived around two o’clock in the night and were trying to find a place to sleep, Papa Smurf had the nice idea to camp on a camper trail without informing the owner. This appeared not to be the best idea when a guy shot us almost from his property; he looked by the way as aliens already abducted him. So we stayed with the eight of us in a four-people hotel room (nice and cozy).

The next morning we visited the UFO museum, which was really the only thing to see in this boring town. We decided to hit the road again to White Sands. This took a little bit longer than expected. A sign would be nice. But luckily we found the place before sunrise. And to see the sunrise in White Sands was really an amazing experience! Around ten we still had to ride for 10 hours to beautiful Flagstaff. Well, it was definitely worth it. If you have the change to go over there, you have to DO THIS just make sure that you spend less time in the car than we did (almost impossible to spend more hours, if you are beading us please let us know!).

Quotes:
* Warner: Everybody OK in the back?
* Just a tip: If you are searching for anything, maybe it is behind Jack in the Box!!
* Caroline: Always feels like a hot shower!
* Philip: That man looked as if he was abducted by aliens!
* Scott: I can be quiet for ten minutes! I really can…
