Getting TO/AROUND: Please keep in mind that Vancouver is a relatively new city; therefore, public transport systems and highways are not as highly developed as most cosmopolitan cities (although Vancouver IS said to have the most comprehensive public transit system in North America). The city now boasts TWO SkyTrain lines: The Expo Line (blue) runs westward from Surrey's King George station up to Vancouver's Waterfront station, and then backtracks to the east. The new Millennium Line(yellow) will run westward from New West's Braid Station up to Broadway - construction is complete and the new line is up and running. From Vancouver's Waterfront Station, you can take a scenic SeaBus trip across the Burrard Inlet to North Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay station. Our SeaBuses (2) make up the only catamaran passenger ferry system in the world. The Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) is serviced by a large network of buses, and friendly busdrivers are always willing to answer your questions. Effective 1 April 2002, you'll pay $2.00 for 1 zone, $3.00 for 2 zones, and $4.00 for 3 zones of travel, and guess what? You can use your transfers anywhere within the zones you have paid for for up to 2 hours. The GVRD is an expansive area and you may find it more convenient to use a vehicle to commute between the different municipalities. Petrol is also quite cheap (now stands around 79 cents per litre).
